Batterers Intervention Program (BIP)

Creating A Process of Change For Men Who Batter

Encouraging Accountability & Working Towards Social Change

The Duluth Model is recognized nationally and internationally as the leading tool to help communities eliminate violence in the lives of women and children. The model seeks to eliminate domestic violence through written procedures, policies, and protocols governing intervention and prosecution of criminal domestic assault cases. The Duluth Model was the first to outline multi-disciplinary procedures to protect and advocate for victims.

What is the Duluth Model?

The Duluth Model provides a method for communities to coordinate their responses to domestic violence through an inter-agency approach that brings the justice and human service interventions together with the primary goal of protecting victims from ongoing abuse.

The Duluth Model engages legal systems and human
service agencies to create a distinctive form of organized public responses to domestic violence. It is characterized by:

  • Clearly identifiable and largely shared assumptions and theories about the source of battering and the effective means to deter it
  • Empirically tested intervention strategies that build safety and accountability into all elements of the infrastructure of processing cases of violence
  • Well-defined methods of inter-agency cooperation guided by advocacy programs.

We are trained in the Duluth Model and proud to be able to offer this service to men who want to be held accountable to change and work toward healthy relationships.

To be able to offer this program and provide true services that will effect change is instrumental to me. Because, to me, sometimes being successful also means keeping families together.
