KIMBERLEE GODSHALL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
BEING ACCEPTED FOR GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
(EASTON, PA – 2013) – The Kimberlee Godshall Scholarship is being offered in memory of Kimberlee Godshall, who lost her life at the hands of her husband on November 13, 2002, to graduating seniors who are domestic violence survivors or planning to enter a field that will serve domestic violence victims. The announcement was made today by Heidi Markow, president and founder of the Beginning Over Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps victims of domestic violence take back their lives.
“We feel our time, effort and money should go to save someone else who’s been through this terrible ordeal,” Markow said.
The initial scholarship will award $500 to a local graduating high school senior from Northampton or Lehigh County planning to enter a field that may help serve victims of domestic violence, whether law enforcement, social work, psychology, etc. Anyone interested in applying should submit a 500-word essay relating a personal experience such as dealing with domestic violence, overcoming a challenging obstacle, or why the individual is going into the particular intended field. Essays should be submitted by May 1, 2013 to: Beginning Over Foundation, Scholarship Dept, 706 East Street, Easton, 18042. Essays will be reviewed and a recipient chosen by the Beginning Over Foundation Board of Directors and the winner will be announced at their commencement ceremony.
Financial support for the scholarship will come from ongoing fundraising efforts by the Beginning Over Foundation. It is hoped that with enough money raised, the scholarship award can be increased in later years.
